Best Sand Sources from Sylhet, Chattak, Vulaganj and Sunamganj
Bangladesh has several premium construction sand source areas. Explore the unique characteristics of sand from Sylhet, Chattak, Vulaganj, Fazilpur, and Sunamganj — and find out which suits your project.
Bangladesh is blessed with some of South Asia's best natural sand deposits, primarily across the greater Sylhet division. Each source region produces sand with slightly different characteristics — making it crucial to choose the right source for your specific construction needs.
Sylhet Sand (2.5 FM)
The benchmark of quality in Bangladesh. Sylhet river basin sand has a natural FM of around 2.5, making it ideal for all structural RCC work. Consistent grain size, low silt. Available year-round.
Fazilpur Sand (2.3–2.5 FM)
Coarse-grade sand from Fazilpur with high FM. The preferred choice for heavy-duty structural concrete, foundations, and RCC work. Builders love it for the exceptional compressive strength and strong cement bonding it provides.
Chattak Sand (2.2 FM & 2.3-2.5 FM)
A versatile sand from the Chattak river area along the Surma. Available in two distinct grades: a 2.2 FM medium size sand for general purpose fine sand and plastering, and a coarser 2.3 to 2.5 FM sand for heavy concrete work and structural casting.
Vulaganj Sand
Coarse-grade sand from Vulaganj with higher FM values. Preferred for heavy foundation work, pile caps, and raft slabs where coarser aggregate mix is preferred.
Sunamganj Sand (Dowarabazar)
High-quality sand from the Dowarabazar region of Sunamganj. With a 2.1 to 2.3 FM grade, it provides the perfect medium-fine texture for strong plastering, concrete block manufacturing, and general construction.
